Michelle Thomas (Setember 23, 1969 - December 22, 1998), was an American actress best known for her role as Myra Monkhouse, the girlfriend of Steve Urkel, on the American sitcom Family Matters from 1993 to 1998. She was born in Boston, Massachusetts.[1] She also played Justine Phillips, girlfriend of Theo Huxtable on The Cosby Show from 1988 to 1990. and starred on the soap opera series The Young and The Restless as Callie Rogers in 1998 before she died. Additionally, in 1984 Thomas was crowned Hal Jackson's Talented Teens Miss New Jersey and Miss International.
Early life
Thomas was born in Boston, Massachusetts but grew up in Montclair, New Jersey, and is an alumna of West Essex High School. She is the daughter of Phynjuar Thomas a stage actress and Dennis Thomas a member of a music group Kool And The Gang[2]
Career
She appeared in a variety of television programs during the 1980s and 1990s including The Cosby Show, Roseanne and The Young and the Restless (for which she was nominated for NAACP Award as outstanding African American actress in a daytime television program). In her spare time, Thomas performed with The Groundlings Theatre group.
Thomas also starred in Mint Condition's "What Kind of Man Would I Be," and in Dru Hill's "Never Make a Promise" video. She also made a brief appearance on the movie Hangin' with the Homeboys.
Illness and death
Thomas was diagnosed with an incurable form of stomach cancer; intra-abdominal desmoplastic small round cell tumor, a rare soft tissue sarcoma.[3]
On December 22, 1998,[4] [5] [6] [7] Thomas passed away in New York City at Manhattan's Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center,[8] at the age of 29[5][7][1] or 30.[6][3][8]
