James Root (October 2, 1971), is a guitarist, known mainly for the nine piece metal band, Slipknot. James joined and replaced Slipknot's previous guitarist, Josh Brainard shortly after the completion of Slipknot's debut self-titled album. James is the tallest member of Slipknot at 6'6, and known for wearing a Jester mask with a zipper like mouth. James is also in two side project bands with two different Slipknot members, Stone Sour with singer Corey Taylor, and The Rapists with guitarist Mick Thompson.
