Recently, I worked on the design and layout of a site about wood sculpture and other woodwork or wood craft http://nik-sergeev.com, with photographs in galleries, of the items made by my father (Nik Sergeev). If there are any problems with the site as seen with your browser, please tell me. One feature of the site is the applet with information about Australian timbers: again, focusing on their usefulness for making wooden articles. http://nik-sergeev.com/trees.html

My father has collected quite a lot of woodworking tools over the years, so it is easy for me to make things out of wood from time to time. The best thing I made was a wooden chessboard.

With woodwork, surface treatment (polish, stains, lacquer) is a whole science, it turns out. The same wooden grain can look very differently, depending on the treatment.

Woodturning can only go so far in terms of creativity, so we don't have a lathe. Mostly my father works with the natural shape of the wood (tangled roots, burls, branching forms), so he makes various wooden creatures, animals, faces, because one often sees likenesses of these things within the form of the wood.
