Etymology

Looking at the history of this page, it seems that users have vied with each other to order the churches. I propose establishing some type of neutral, scientific hierarchy, and have edited the page to fit the following structure:

  1. Churches in Ukraine
  2. Churces Outside of Ukraine
  3. Historical Churches

Within each category, I have then listed the churches in alphabetical order. (Even though this means that the Churches in Ukraine are basically ranked from smallest to largest.) Out of respect for the fact that the UOC-MP is legally incorporated as "UOC", I have alphabeticized under that name, but added a note to explain why M comes before K in this list.

I would welcome suggestions on other objective structures. Qe2 (talk) 08:22, 16 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

To conform with consensus reached at talk:History_of_Christianity_in_Ukraine, I have relisted the Orthodox Churches in Ukraine according to number of adherants, as measured by consistent scientific surveys. Qe2 (talk) 05:34, 9 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Currently the UOC article is a redirect to History of Christianity in Ukraine. I suggest to make this an article about both UOC-KP and UOC-MP and redirect each of them into this article. It seems to me logical since these two churches currently claim both the jurisdiction and the name. The histories of the two are so intertwined that it is impossible to tell the story of one church without invoking the other all the time. As of today, most of these churches' history is the history of their rivarly. Opinions? -Irpen 20:19, Jun 11, 2005 (UTC)

In my opinion it is better to expand "History of Christianity in Ukraine" and include information about all Christian churches in Ukraine even Protestant/Old Believer sects etc. in the article. The main focus should be on post-'Baptism of Rus' developments especially Orthodox vs. Unia. Every major contemprorary church in Ukraine deserves its own article...However, if you really want to merge the articles and think its gonna be better then go ahead. Fisenko 03:41, 12 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I agree with you that expanding the History article would be the best thing ideally. This was my original intention when I created that article by moving the rudiment UOC stuff there. However, the expansion of History article is not happening unfortunately. I hoped that I or someone else will write the article but so far it got only some occasional patchwork. OK, I suggest we keep a History article in our todo list and I will try to write here a brief summary of 90s - today events about two UOC churches rivalry. -Irpen 08:08, Jun 12, 2005 (UTC)

Disambig

The official name of the "UOC-MP" is just "UOC". UOC-MP is the label applied to it by UOC-KP and sometimes (but not universally) used in the media. Just to be sure I am explaining this right, to say "UOC under the patriarch of Moscow" or "UOC, autonomous under the Patriarch of Moscow" is correct. So say that the name of the church is Ukrainian Orthodox Church - Moscow Patriarchy is not correct. --Irpen 22:08, 4 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
