Author of the book Into the Adirondacks[1] (North Country Books, Utica, NY 1994 ISBN 0-925168-35-1), Jim Poulette is a winter mountaineer, National Ski Patroller #212197[2], Adirondack Forty-Sixers #2729 [3], and Northeast 111er #411 [4].

As a free lance writer he contributed to The Conservationist[5], Adirondac Magazine[6], Peeks Magazine[7], and several periodicals including the New York Times [8], The Saratogian [9], and the Albany Times Union [10]. He was licensed by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation[11] as a wilderness Adirondack guide from 1990 to 2002. During this time he was awarded the Adirondack Forty-Sixer Conservation Award for his volunteer trail work, and the Adirondack Mountain Club's [12] Lean-To Adopter Award [13] for his work on the LilyPad Pond lean-to and trail head in the Pharaoh Lake Wilderness area [14].
