XMission was the first internet service provider in Utah, founded in late 1993 by Pete Ashdown. XMission has had a loyal base of users over the years and even now, when most people get Internet access from broadband providers, many users hold onto their XMission accounts for the fashion statement that is an xmission.com address.

By far the most famous page and user hosted on XMission is The Best Page in the Universe. Recent statistics indicate that Maddox accounts for 75% of all traffic to the xmission.com domain.

The second most famous user is probably the owner/founder Pete Ashdown.

XMission is famous locally (in Salt Lake City) for it's goofy promotional products, including postcards, bumper stickers and T-shirts. Many of these feature pictures of Pete and occasionally his sister Sue, who was his business partner until 2000. Ironically, while all of these are available on the website for reasonable prices, most can also be stolen from the lobby of the downtown office.

XMission is also known for hosting LAN parties, for gaming, Linux install fests, and other forms of geek socializing.
