A funnel dog is a combination between a corn dog and a funnel cake. Essentially it is a corn dog, but instead of a traditional cornbread batter, it is covered in a much sweeter batter that is used to make funnel cakes. It is then deep fried in hot oil and can be served with traditional funnel cake toppings.

History

The Funnel Dog was a culinary creation of Clay W. Socha and Alexander Flores in July of 2008. At the time, both were employees at Wild Rivers Waterpark, Clay Socha was the events coordinator for the park and Alex Flores was the food service manager. Orginially, the product was not meant for the general public, but after its widespread popularity among the park's employees, executive chef Clark Hutton and the board of directors decided to put it on the menu starting in the 2009 summer season.

Availability

Currently, Wild Rivers Waterpark is the only venue which offers this product at two of its restaurants, Colonel Hawking's and Congo Cafe [1]. Although the park does not have protected rights to it, in-park advertisements describe it as "Exclusively at Wild Rivers". The name is not trademarked at this time.
