"Fanfare/Don't Dream It, Be It" is the fourteenth song in the The Rocky Horror Picture Show soundtrack. It is featured directly after the first section of the Floor Show, Rose Tint My World. The song was written by Richard O'Brien especially for the stage play, whilst other Rocky Horror songs were written without intention of using them in type of production.

Origin

The name denotes from a magazine featured in Richard O'Brien's home town which claimed boldy on the back of each cover DONT DREAM IT, BE IT! The fanfare section of this song denotes to admiration of Hollywood film star Fay Wray's performance in King Kong. It is sung by Frank'n'Furter as well as a chorus made up of Rocky, Brad, Janet and Columbia.

Progression

The fanfare section of the song features the same chords as Rose Tint My World whilst Don't Dream It, Be It, features a classic C-Am-F-G chord progression reminiscent of the 1950's and 60's. At the end of Fanfare/Don't Dream It, Be It, Frank'n'Furter breaks into Wild and Untamed Thing. That is the final section of the Floor Show.
