Kotcherla is a village in Ipur Mandal, Guntur District, Andhra Pradesh, India. The nearest town at 11 km south is Vinukonda, a Taluq Headquarters. Kotcherla falls into Vinukonda Assembly constituency and Narasarao Pet Parliamentary constituency. It is located 88 km southwest of Guntur and is on the state highway connecting Vinukonda and Hyderabad.

Overview

The village panchayat includes two nearby hamlets, Kotha Nellore and Kotcherla Thanda. Kotha Nellore was formed as a settlement in the recent decades with immigrants from Kanigiri,Prakasam district. Kotcherla Thanda is a settlement formed by the people of the nomadic tribe “Lambadi”. These two hamlets are at a distance of 1 km from the village in south and southeast directions respectively. The number of voters in the panchayat is around 4000 as of May 2009.

This village is basically an agrarian village and most of the residents are either farmers or marginal farmers. Kotcherla is considered to be one of the very few prosperous villages in the mandal in terms of education,Agriculture & entrepreneurship. On the political front, this village is considered to be very active and progressive. Nelluri,Inala,Jagarlamudi and Tumati are three prominent surnames in Kotcherla.Other surnames include Gonuguntla,Poka,Nallabotula and Kotcherla etc.....

The village has ZP High school(from 6th to 10th std) run by the Zilla Parishad,primary school(Pre to 5th std) and a two single-teacher primary schools in S.C colony and B.C colony run by the Mandal Parishad. There are Three Clinic's facilitated with the RMP doctors and A veterinary hospital, 6 milk-collection centers and Panchayat office building located on the main road to Vinukonda. The statues of NT Ramarao and Subash Chandra bosh are located at the Main road and statues of Mahatma Gandhi and Nehru are located at the Karnam gaari Center. There are three paddy milling units are also located on the main road to Vinukonda from Ipur.There are two lakes in the village called Mangala vadi Cheruvu and Ramanna Cheruvu for drinking and cultivation purposes located at the distance of 1 km from the village in south and southeast directions respectively.

There is a famous temple for Amma vaaru Sri Ankala parameswara devi gaaru located at the 300 mts away from the main road towards the east,Every year in the month of May, A festival called Tirunalla happens for 3 days for Amma vaaru.Around 20 to 25 thousands pilgrims would attend this festival from all over the district.This one is a very big festival for the people of the village and celebrates this one in a big way by decorating temple with electric bulbs and offering Pooja by the devotees to Amma vaaru.in the 3rd day of night cultural programs would happen on the Prabhas decorated with electric bulbs with the height of around 45-50 ft.

There is a temple built for Lord Anjaneya at the Golla Bazaaru. There is a temple for Lord Shiva at the Nisamkola Bazaar and here regular puja is conducts by the devotees. There is a temple for Lord Rama which was in a dilapidated condition till recently. Which is now reconstructing. There is a temple of Lord Ganesha in the paddy fields towards the north of the village. There is a temple of Lord Venkateswara at Mangala vadi Cheruvu (lake) towards the south of the village.As per the tradition, The bridegrooms in the villages goes to this temple and offers pooja to lord Venkateswara before marriage.There are two churches located one at Madiga bazaar and other one at Maala Bazaar,There is also a mosque at the Muslim Bazaar.

In the decade ago, This village used to be in the top of the list for the faction fights, Now its been changed entirely and became Peace and Model for other villages in the mandal by developing in all aspects like infrastructure,agriculture and Education.

In the Current generation, Every Parent in the village is sending his children to schools/colleges/universities for education. This is a good sign and would improve the literacy rate and improves the awareness on the society.

Since October 2005, The Society of this village ( along with the 10 more villages of the Ipur mandal) is being headed by Sri. Nelluri Sivaiah S/o Sri. Nelluri Adivaiah.

In the Period (1999 - 2003) The Society of this village was headed by Sri.Inala Koteswara Rao.

In the Period (1993 - 1998) The Society of this village was headed by Sri.Inala Laxmaiah.
