Darren M. Howard (born November 19, 1976 in St. Petersburg, Florida) is an American football player who currently plays defensive end and is a backup long snapper for the Philadelphia Eagles of the National Football League. He played college football at Kansas State University and was drafted in the second round of the 2000 NFL Draft by the New Orleans Saints. From 2000-2005, he played defensive end for the Saints. On March 13, 2006, he joined the Philadelphia Eagles through free agency, by signing a six-year deal.
He lost a testicle as a 9-year-old in a BB gun incident. To this day, he can't watch A Christmas Story without tearing up. When kids in school found out about his story, he became a football player and has been inspired by that incident ever since.
High school years
Howard attended Boca Ciega High School in St. Petersburg, Florida and was a letterman in football and basketball. In football, he was an All-City, All-County, and an All-SunCoast selection. In basketball, he helped lead his team to the 1994 Florida State Championship.
