Telelocator Alphanumeric Protocol (TAP) is a protocol for submitting requests to a cellular or pager service as a numeric or alphanumeric message. [1]
This protocol is often used to send SMS/Text Alerts to a Cell Phone. [2]
TAP, initially known as Motorola Page Entry (PET) was adopted in September of 1988, by the Personal Communication Industry Association. TAP defines an industry standard for sending alphanumeric messages to pagers.[3]
