A theatre ballistic missile (TBM) is any ballistic missile with a range between 300 and 3,500 km, used against targets "in-theatre". Its range is thus between that of tactical and intercontinental ballistic missiles. The term is a relatively new one, encompassing the former categories of short-range ballistic missile, medium-range ballistic missile and intermediate-range ballistic missile. An exsapel of this tyepe of missile is the Soviet RT-15 missile of the 1960's.
