Kingfisher Sky

Kingfisher Sky is a Dutch progressive metal band from The Hague, South Holland. Their debut album Hallway of Dreams, was released in October 2007 on Suburban Records.

History

Kingfisher Sky was formed in The Hague, South Holland after Ivar de Graaf left Within Temptation. The band was founded as a collaboration between Ivar de Graaf and Judith Rijnveld. The first band to originate from this co-operation was a rockband called 'Jambone'. This band ceased to exist only one year later. After this, Ivar and Judith decided they would take some years to write songs that appealed to them, not tied to any genre. In 2006 this resulted in a demo containing 11 tracks. The band was signed in 2007, they released their first album Hallway Of Dreams.

Style

Ivar's progressive rock and traditional folk influences collided with Judith's classical conservatory background, and also her preference for soul and artists like Aretha Franklin. Combined with their mutual love for bands and artists like Porcupine Tree, Jethro Tull, Peter Gabriel, Kate Bush and Tori Amos, new songs were written.
