Romeo Johnson

Romeo Johnson is an American singer, songwriter, composer, and vocal coach. A Chattanooga, Tennessee native, Romeo attended Brainerd High School, for Music Theory, Conducting/Arranging, and Stage Band. He later attended The University of Tennessee, and studied Theater, Voice, and Dance. Romeo is a baritone and has a vocal range from falsetto to bass, and a five-octave vocal range. His range allows him to sing as high as the sopranos and as low as the basses.


Romeo on StarMaker and Making His Band

In 2009, Romeo can be seen in two reality TV shows on MTV as the Vocal Director and Personal Vocal Coach for Sean P. Diddy Combs in “Making His Band”[1] and the Vocal Coach and background section leader on P. Diddy’s “StarMaker”. Romeo Johnson helped select and vocally train Diddy's 14 aspiring singers over the course of 10 weeks. On Monday, October 26th, 2009, the day after the winner was chosen, new artist for "Bad Boy Records" Liz Davis (singer) had thanked Romeo,... "Romeo Johnson, who had the best techniques"[2] and rocker Todd Sarvies said, "Thank you Romeo Johnson and Johnny Wright (music manager) for being coaches, and also for your support and counsel."[3] Melody Angel, the first of three finalists to go home said, "I’d like to thank my vocal coach on the show Romeo Johnson -- he was the Friend I needed and the teacher that showed me the way."[4]

Live Performances ft. Romeo Johnson

In 1993 Romeo Johnson sang Background vocals with Stacy Campbell, and Lisa Taylor for Janet Jackson for her second worldwide tour. The "janet. World Tour" began in Cincinnati, Ohio on November 24, 1993. The show was a sold out and was featured in a one hour special covered by MTV.


In 2007-2008 Romeo was a Vocalist and Background Section Leader for Queen Latifah's Tour. His notable performance was mentioned by the Santa Barbara Review in an article written on November 24, 2007 by By Charles Donelan stated "In this setting, early Mary J. Blige counts as a classic, and it was her song "Real Love" that provided the night's high point, an amazing succession of vocal performances by Latifah, her two female backup singers, and a wonderful musician and rip-roaring male vocalist who goes by Romeo."[5]
