Introduction of Korean Mudflats Solar Salt
Best Environment for Producing of Mudflats Solar Salt
■ The mudflats on the Southwest Coast in Korea are one of the world's top five mudflats along with those of North Sea Coast, East Coast of Canada, East Coast in the United States, and the Amazon River. They are home to abundant plants and animals such as boleophthalmus pectinirostris, octopi, shellfish, seaweed, and sea lettuce.
■ In order to protect the rich marine eco-system of this area, the Korean government and Jeollanam-do Province designated it as a Park Area or a Wetland Preservation Area and have maintained it very carefully.
■ The Cittaslow Assembly in Italy certified the area with salt farms as the first slow city in Asia on December 1, 2008 and the UNESCO designated the Archipelago of Shinan as a World Network of Biosphere Reserves on May 26, 2009, recognizing its global significance.
■ Based on such excellent mudflats, Korea has giant salt farms that unfold over 40 km2 and an excellent environment to produce solar salt of the highest quality.
Scientific Approach of Production Process
■ Salt farms in Korea consist of a reservoir, evaporation area #1 and #2, and a crystallization area. Supplemental facilities include a storage tank that keeps concentrated sea water and a storage facility that keeps Solar Salt.
■ Mudflats Solar Salt has the following production process
1) Taking sea water into a reservoir
2) Evaporation at Evaporation Area #1
3) Evaporation at Evaporation Area #2
4) Producing solar salt at Crystallization Area
5) Collecting solar salt
6) Storing solar salt
7) Natural drying (for about 15 days)
8) Packaging and marketing
■ Mudflats Solar salt is produced in the Crystallization Area after the sea water becomes concentrated by sunlight and wind. It usually takes three to four weeks to produce solar salt.
■ The production of solar salt in Korea progress favorably from April (when sunlight is hot) to September depending on climate conditions.
■ Because of the meticulous and scientific production process, about 380,000 tons of solar salt are produced from mudflats a year and Korea produces most of the solar salt produced from mudflats.
Superiority of Korean Mudflats Solar Salt
■ Because of the good natural environment and scientific production process, Korean mudflats solar salt contains abundant minerals such as calcium, magnesium, and potassium.
■ Korean mudflats solar salt is a main ingredient of Korean fermented foods such as soybean paste, hot pepper paste, soy sauce and Kimchi (one of the five healthiest food in the world).
■ Thanks to the abundant minerals, Korean mudflats solar salt helps to mitigative a hypertension and diabetes mellitus.
● In an animal study, the groups of rats taking solar salt had over 30mmHg of lower systolic blood pressure(SBP) than the group taking general industrial salt.
■ Because salt is an essential food with no substitutes, it is important for families, restaurants, and food companies to use good salt.
■ Korean mudflats solar salt is highly recommended as the best gift from the nature.
