The Liberty Project was a comic book created by writer Kurt Busiek, creator of Astro City and Thunderbolts, and artist James W. Fry.
Summary
The series told the story of a team of four (later five) young former supervillains, who now formed a group of super heroes. This group was put together the U.S. government who offered them an early parole for protecting their country and others against teenage monsters, autocratic space aliens as well as larcenous old friends and lovers.
Members of the Liberty Project are:
- Burnout (Beatrice Keogh)- an angry, angst-filled youngster who can generate flames with a mere thought.
- Cimarron (Rosalita Vasquez) - a feisty, short-tempered Texas hell-raiser. She has super strength and limited invulnerability.
- Crackshot (Lee Alexander Clayton) - a marksman who is trying to go straight. He has the extraordinary ability to hit anything with a weapon. Crackshot is also the mechanic of the team.
- Slick (Nicholas Walcek) - His name reflects both his slippery powers and his slippery personality. He is the reluctant leader, with the power to render surfaces with a very low coefficient of friction (ie. make very slippery).
- Savage (Johnny Savage) - Johnny could transform into a huge gray-skinned hulking brute with razor sharp teeth and Ram's horns. He joins the Project in issue #3.
