Ahmet Ümit

Ahmet Ümit(born in 1960, in Gaziantep, and raised in here) is an Turkish author and poet best known for his work in thrillers.

Biography:

Born in Gaziantep , in 1960. Finished his Primary, Middle and High School there. In 1983, he was graduated from Public Administration, Marmara University, and he wrote his first story in this year Between 1985 and 1986, he was educated in Moscow Social Sciences Academy. Ahmet Ümit, started his literature life with stories but his first work about literature was a poetry book named “Sokağın Zulası” which was published in 1989. In 1990, with a group of literature lovers, he published an artificial magazine named “Hişt”. He published his poems, stories and works in some artificial magazines and newspapers like Adam Sanat, Hişt, Öküz ve Cumhuriyet Kitap and Yeni Yüzyıl In 1992, his first story book, named “Çıplak Ayaklıydı Gece“, was published. In this year, he gained Ferit Oğuz Bayır Art Award with that book. Çıplak Ayaklıydı Gece was the book that introduced Ahmet Ümit to us and it made us to love thrillers too. In 1994, he wrote the scripts of "Çakalların İzinde" which was broadcasted in ATV. Then in 1995, he wrote some critics and briefings about famous authors like Franz Kafka, Dostoyevski, Patricia Highsmith, Edgar Allan Poe and thriller writers in newspapers and magazines. His novel named Sis ve Gece was very exciting and it was one of his best books. Sis ve Gece had been so popular in Turkey also it had become an argument subject. It was published in Greece and it had become the first Turkish Thriller which was translated into foreign language. Also TV series were made by famous producers from his stories like Karanlıkta Koşanlar and Şeytan Ayrıntıda Gizlidir and a film was made from his book Sis ve Gece by Turgut Yasalar.
