MuxCo (Somerset), as the name suggests is the name of the DAB multiplex operator for the county of Somerset.
It is a consortium made up of three companies - UKRD, the Local Radio Company and National Grid Wireless all owning a third share. However, it is effectivley now just two companies who own the licence as the Local Radio Company is now a subsidary company of UKRD.
The DAB licence was advertised by Ofcom on January 23rd 2008. At the close on April 23rd 2008, the reguator had received only one application, from MuxCo (Somerset). They had to wait until May 21st 2008, before they were confirmed as having won the licence.
Only two transmitters are confirmed as carrying the platform initially; Mendip, & Taunton. As required, the local BBC service, BBC Somerset, has to be carried on this platform.
