Shoreham Beach
Don't want to get into an edit war with you about such a little thing, but don't really think it's necessary to put on the Shoreham-by-Sea wikipedia page that Shoreham Beach is called "The Beach" by local residents. I know people do abbreviate it to this - I lived there myself for 18 years - but the denizens of any town will call their beach area "The Beach". If you live in Brighton, you don't say that you're going to "Brighton Beach", you say "the beach". I know Shoreham Beach is slightly different in that it's the name of the whole area, I just think it goes without saying that people will abbreviate it, as they will with anything. I can understand the point of this if it was called a different name for historical reasons, or it was abbreviated to something unlikely like "ShoBe" or something. Besides, it makes the sentence clumsy. For these reasons I'm going to remove it again, unless it can be shown that it is sometimes the preferred form and is in wide usage in secondary sources (hence my request for citations when you put it back the first time. Proper citations that is - not a citation saying that you and you parents call it that - that isn't a verifiable secondary source). Rob Sinden (talk) 09:17, 7 October 2009 (UTC)
