George P. Sewall

George Popham Sewall, born in Georgetown, Maine in 1811, was a lawyer and State Representative from Old Town. He was elected Speaker of the Maine House of Representives in 1851 - 1852. He was appointed U.S. Collector of Customs for Bangor, Maine in 1854. His great grandson, Joseph Sewall, would later become President of the Maine Senate. His wife, Sydney Ellen Wingate, was the daughter of U.S. Representative Joseph F. Wingate. He died in Old Town in 1881.
