Arthur Edward Imperatore Sr. (born 1925, West New York, NJ)

Business

  • 1947 started a local trucking business with a surplus US Army truck with his brothers Eugene, Arnold, George and Harold, which eventualy became A-P-A Transport Corp. (closed 2002).
  • 1978 Purchased the Colorado Rockies Hockey team and moved it to NJ in 1982 to become the New Jersey Devils.
  • 1981 Purchased 2½-mile length if waterfront in Weehawken an West New York, NJ from bankrupt Penn Central railroad.
  • 1986 Started NY Waterway ferry servece from Weehawken to Manhattan.
  • 1988 Listed in the Forbes 400 list of richest Americans (no longer on the list)
  • 1989 Started an upscale restaurant, Arthur's Landing in Weehwaken along the Hudson River (closed 2009)

Honors

The Arthur E. Imperatore School of Sciences and Arts of Stevens Institute of Technology, in Hoboken, NJ is named in his honor.
