DeMarcus Cousins (born August 13, 1990) is an American basketball player. Cousins is a 6'11", 270 lb power forward/center from Mobile, Alabama, United States. He is a freshman at the University of Kentucky.

High school

Cousins was named to the 2009 McDonald's All-American Team where he scored 14 points and had 8 rebounds.[1] Cousins also played in the 2009 Nike Hoop Summit at the Rose Garden in Portland and the Jordan Brand Classic at Madison Square Garden where he scored 10 points for the black team.[2] Cousins led LeFlore to the Alabama class 5A Final Four but fell short to future teammate Eric Bledsoe and Parker High School.

College

Cousins first committed to UAB on February 28, 2008 but never signed a letter of intent because he wanted to be released if UAB's head coach, Mike Davis, left for another school, but the school refused to comply with this condition.[3] Cousins decomitted from UAB and committed to Memphis on March 9, 2009.[4] He reopened his recruiting after then Memphis coach John Calipari was hired at Kentucky. On April 7, 2009, Cousins decided to follow John Calipari to Kentucky.[5] He signed his Letter of Intent on April 15.
