AK Sarwate

Maj. Gen. AK Sarwate, AVSM was an alumni of the National Defence Academy (India) and was commisioned in the Kumaon Regiment on August 02, 1964 as a 2nd Lt in the 11 Kumaon. He was transfered to 16 Kumaon after serving for a year and a half with 11 Kumaon. He rose to the rank of a Major in 16 Kumaon but commanded 5 Kumaon as a Lt. Col. He later served as a Brigadier General Staff (BGS(Ops.)) in the HQ Southern Command.

Maj. Gen. Sarwate was the General Officer Commanding 15 Infantry Division (Panther Division) of the Indian Army. During the nuclear tests conducted by India in Pokhran in 1998, Maj. Gen. Sarwate was deputed as the Chief of Staff in the 16 Division at Jodhpur. He was also appointed as the Commandant, Service Selection Center (South).
