Dr Silviu Ionescu (born April 8, 1960) is the former Romanian Charge d'Affaires ad interim of the Romanian
Embassy in Singapore. The Coroner's Court found him responsible for the two hit-and-run accidents that took place in the span of one minute in the wee hours of 15 December 2009 in Bukit Panjang. [1]
Based on the witnesses and evidences presented in the Coroner's Inquiry, it was proven that Silviu Ionescu was the driver of the Romanian Embassy's Audi A6 which hit three pedestrians in quick succession along Bukit Panjang Road and fled the scene. He then lied that the car had been stolen. Silviu Ionescu left Singapore for Romania three days later, refusing to return to Singapore for the Coroner's Inquiry. [2]
The Singapore Attorney-General's Chambers prepared a set of 13 charges against Silviu Ionescu, including that of causing death by reckless driving, causing grievous hurt through a rash act, and failing to stop, help or lodge a police report after the accidents. [3]
A warrant of arrest was issued against him. [4] At the same time, Interpol has also issued a 'Red Notice' [5] against him.
