Jo Russell is an English radio DJ who was one half of the Sony Award winning[1] Jo And Twiggy on the Trent FM weekday breakfast show. As of 3 November 2008 she began presenting the weekend morning show on national Absolute Radio, replacing JK and Joel and she is currently on BRMB presenting the Weekday Breakfast Show, She is well known for her ironic sense of humour.

There was recently an article in which Jo Russell from Absolute Radio said her Radio Dream Team was Hamish & Andy, they replied with "we wish it had been written by Ricky Gervais".

Awards

Following her 2010 Sony Nomination for her time at Absolute Radio, Russell is now the most nominated female in the history of the awards.

Personal life

Before radio Jo worked for an Insurance company, Coca Cola and her other jobs include working in a launderette and a guest house.

Radio career

Jo started working in radio worked at York Hospital Radio. She then moved on to weekends at Stray FM in Harrogate and then a full time gig at Minster FM in York.[2]

Jo eventually started working on the breakfast show of a local radio station in Derby, where she worked for three years. It was there she met Andy "Twiggy" Twigge, with whom she later partnered with. Two years later she and Twiggy moved to Trent FM, starting the Jo and Twiggy breakfast show, which ran for over ten years.

Trent FM

Jo worked alongside Twiggy for over ten years at Trent FM, during which time they won many Sony Awards, beating among others, Stephen Fry, Ricky Gervais and Jonathan Ross.

Absolute Radio

In September 2008 it was announced that Jo was leaving Trent FM to take over the weekend mid-morning show on Absolute Radio as part of their new line-up. Jo replaced JK and Joel.[3][4]

Her team included Producer Paul and Newsreader Adrian. She attracted regular guests who included Richard Hammond, Justin Lee Collins, Richard Madeley, Heston Blumenthal, John McCririck, Ray Parker Junior, The Script, Zac Efron, Anthony Daniels, C3PO, Charlize Theron, Reese Witherspoon, Michael C Hall, Philip Glenister,Simon Pegg, JJ Abrams.

In September 2009, it was announced [5] that Jo would be leaving her show on Absolute Radio. Her last show was broadcast in October 2009. The announcement [5] made reference to how Jo had been seriously ill and lost family members during the last 12 months, and congratulated her on her achievements during the first 12 months of Absolute Radio's existence.

BRMB

She was announced as new Breakfast presenter on BRMB as part of a revamp.

Group Programme and Marketing Director, David Lloyd, said: “Jo is, without any doubt, one of the UK’s leading broadcasters and we are delighted that she has agreed to join us. Waking up in Birmingham to Jo will be quite special – and certainly worth checking out later this year. Jo’s arrival is yet another plank in our strategy to restore BRMB to its former glory as one of the UK’s most entertaining radio stations’.

It is rumoured Jo will be leaving BRMB soon to move to Australia after a recent fling with Hamish Blake (Hamish & Andy).
