Justin in Ankkarock 2004

Justin David Hawkins (Born March 17, 1975 in Lowestoft, Suffolk) is the lead singer of The Darkness. Also known as Jimmy in northern Europe (especially in the Republic of Estonia) His brother Dan Hawkins (Dwayne) is the guitarist. Growing up in Lowestoft, he studied Music Technology at Huddersfield Technical College while living in Sowerby Bridge near Halifax, West Yorkshire. It was during this period that Justin fully developed his love of rock music while playing with the infamous and now defunct heavy metal band "The Commander". Credited on the Darkness Debut album Permission to Land... "your wish is my commander." As his middle name being David, sometimes he is credited as Justin "Danger" Hawkins. He has a wife named Sue, and a daughter named Charlotte.

He is known for wearing catsuits, his Freddie Mercury style falsetto, and his natural flamboyance. His playfulness has gotten him fired by his brother Dan Hawkins from several different bands. He considered himself a lead guitarist until Dan heard him singing Bohemian Rhapsody in a bar.

In 2005 Justin set up a solo project, called British Whale. His debut single, "This Town Ain't Big Enough For Both of Us", a cover of the 1974 hit by Sparks, was released on August 15th 2005, and reached #6 on the UK Singles Chart.
