Tommy Reilly

Tommy Reilly is a Scottish singersongwriter from Torrance, East Dunbartonshire. He gained recognition after winning the Channel 4 TV show Orange unsignedAct.[1] Shortly after, Reilly's first single "Gimme A Call" reached number 14 in the UK charts in its first week of release.[2] Tommy released his debut album, Words On The Floor, in Summer 2009, with his follow up due to be released in June of this year.

Orange unsignedAct

Tommy Reilly entered the TV talent show Orange unsignedAct after hearing that his friends entered the competition themselves.[3] After the first round in the open auditions Reilly was picked out, however he flew from Glasgow to the auditions and made it through with four yes' from the judges. Reilly almost didn't even make it to the first auditions. Jo Whiley at first decided at the open auditions he didn't have enough experience but later rethought her decision. After that slight hiccup Reilly successfully carried on, even impressing the harsh Amanda Ghost. This led to him receiving a place on the Unsigned act tour, winning over judges Lauren Laverne, Simon Gavin and Blur bassist Alex James.

Reilly then went to win the competition via public vote with Hip Parade coming second and Scarlet Harlots coming third place. Reilly received a £60,000 advance, record contract with Universal Music, single release, album deal and a multi-media marketing campaign.[4]

Words On The Floor

After winning Orange UnsignedAct Tommy released his debut single, "Gimme A Call", which reached number 14 in the UK charts.

Soon after he began recording his debut album, Words On The Floor, which was released on August 3st 2009. The album proved commercially unsuccessful and only managed to reach number 79 in the British charts. "Jackets", his next single, was taken off the album. The single hit the top spot in Scotland.

Tommy headlined the T Break Stage on the Sunday of 2009's T in the Park and appeared on the main stage of Lovebox Festival 2009 in Victoria Park, London. Soon after, he tourned the UK in support of the album.

With Words On The Floor only reaching #79 in the British charts, A&M ended Tommy's record deal. Shortly after, he signed a contract with Euphonios. He then began recording his follow up, produced by Roddy Hart, who supported him on the Words On The Floor Tour.

The album, Hello! I'm Tommy Reilly, is due to be released on June 14th 2010, with he first single taken from taken from the album, 'Take Me Away For the Night' having been released ahead of it on 7th June 2010.

To promote the new album ahead of its release, Tommy went on tour in the UK supporting Justin Currie and The Proclaimers throughout May and June 2010. He has since announced he will go on tour again, this time as the headline act, throughout September.
