Hamun

A hamun (or hamoun) refers to seasonal desert lakes or marshlands, found on the Iranian Plateau, from Iran to Afghanistan and western Pakistan / (Balochistan). They form a critical link in the wildlife of the area, aquatic as well as avian and terrestrial.

Of the better-known hamuns are:

Hamun Lake, Hamun-e Helmand, Hamun-e Jaz Murian, Hamun Zeheh, Goad-i Zereh or Lake zereh depression, Hamun-e Puzak, Hamun-i Mashkel or Mashkid, (straddling Iran-Pakistan borders), Hamun-e Saberi in Sistan, straddling Iran-Afghanistan borders)
