Annoying Orange is a comedy web series created by Dane Boedigheimer, which began in October 9, 2009. By June 2010, it had amassed over 137 million views on YouTube.[2][1] Starting on January 11, 2010, the Annoying Orange got his own YouTube channel, and as of June 28, 2010 is ranked #17 for most subscribed channel all time.[1][3]

Background

The show features an animated talking orange, named Orange, played by Dane Boedigheimer, who heckles other fruits or nearby animated objects with puns and laughter. Orange lives on somebody's kitchen counter, which he shares with his best friend Pear (a Bartlett pear) and Passion (a female passion fruit). Most episodes consist of Orange bothering whomever/whatever he is talking to, only to have the annoyed party meet a gruesome end (usually by evisceration with a knife).[1] Boedigheimer also plays Pear, while Passion is played by Justine "iJustine" Ezarik. Various episodes have featured a guest YouTuber as a secondary character. Guest YouTubers would say "you're a (something)" to refer to his annoying nature, to which Orange often responds by saying "I'm not (something), I'm an orange".

The series was rated as the most viewed web series for both February and March 2010 by Mashable, with over 52 million views for March.[4][5] As of April 26, 2010, the series reportedly has over 108 million views on YouTube.[1][6][7]
