Sjors and Sjimmie are two cartoon characters from a comic book series, published in the Netherlands. Sjors is a blond-haired boy and Sjimmie is a black boy. In the latest stories they live with the Colonel and Sally. In the stories, the colonel suffers the most. Together with Dikkie, a classmate, Sjors and Sjimmie are doing regular pranks.

Early years

The history of the comic starts in 1902. In that year appears in an American newspaper with a cartoon boy Buster Brown in the lead. The comic is a success, and there follows a huge amount of publicity about the boy stuff, like clothes, toys and whiskey.

1975-present

The magazine Eppo created in 1975 after a merger of the magazine Sjors and Pep, both from the same publisher. For this occasion there is chosen to modernize Sjors and Sjimmie. Robert van der Kroft is going to draw the comic, which now are humorous stories from one page.

Sjors & Sjimmie are in the later strips a little older. They become teenagers who love soccer, computer games and especially, with varying success, chasing girls. Also, they eat in their spare time to McMickeys.

Sjors & Sjimmie develops more and more like a youth trip that still runs on current affairs. Thus, fashion trends but also by political developments. Sjors & Sjimmie are never intended as opinion trip. All subjects without a clear position used to joke with them.

Sjors & Sjimmie are Michael Jackson - and Madonna fans. In the series they're called Michael Claxon and Madomma. Obviously there are many more nice corruptions of famous people.

In 1988 the magazine Eppo is renamed "Sjors and Sjimmie" because of the success of the two comic heroes. In 1999, the magazine is defunct. The magazine contained both short and long Sjors & Sjimmie strips. These cartoons were not drawn by Van der Kroft, but by anonymous members of an art studio in Spain.

Film

The Limburgian moviemaker Henk van der Linden made seven feature films of Sjors & Sjimmie, namely:

  • Sjors en Sjimmie en het Zwaard van Krijn (1977)
