Raoul Thomas Moat, 37, is a former bouncer from Newcastle. He was released from Durham prison on 1 July 2010 after serving a short sentence for Grievous Bodily Harm. Shortly after his release, Raoul Moat allegedly shot three people, murdering his estranged girlfriend's new partner and causing life-threatening injuries to her and a police officer. Northumbria police extended their search to neighbouring counties in a national manhunt on 5 July 2010. Northumbria police were informed about Moat's potential to harm his ex girlfriend, Sam Stobbart, by Durham prison.
