Just to clarify: This not an original drawing by Beverly K. Effinger, right? You drew it, based on an Effinger sketch of another person? If so, I must say that you're a very good drawer. --Menchi 04:25 19 Jun 2003 (UTC)
- Beverly is the very good drawer. Yes, she drew that last time she visited New Orleans. -- Infrogmation
I do not understand why User:Roomba marked this as an "orphan", as it is still being used on my user page, in addition to the facebook. I reverted Roomba's edit, and left a query on the relevant user page. -- Infrogmation

[edit]please relicense this image or it will be deleted shortly. --Admrboltz (T | C) 06:54, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
- The image is not an orphan, and as far as I can determine is properly licenced. Please explain your comment which I do not understand, and what the reasoning for potential deletion would be. Wondering, -- Infrogmation 18:17, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
- Fair use images are only acceptable in the main article space, and is not allowed in the User space. --Admrboltz (T | C) 18:32, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
- Hm. Could you give me a link to that policy please? (That wasn't the case back when I uploaded it, and I didn't find it in a quick look at WP:Fair use... sorry, I might have had a few distractions keeping me from seeing some changes of policy for a couple months.) As this is specifically an image of the subject of the User page with specific permission of the artist, rather than just some random image yoinked from somewhere with a "fair use" notice put on it, do you think I might appeal the need for deletion in this case? Thank you much, -- Infrogmation 22:03, 17 January 2006 (UTC)
- WP:FAIR, Fair use policy which is the only official part of the fair use page, point 7 "The material must be used in at least one article", point 9 "...They should never be used on templates (including stub templates and navigation boxes) or on user pages..." —Admrboltz (T | C) 22:19, 17 January 2006 (UTC)

Fair use review requested
[edit]I am requesting fair use review. It is an image of me, by the specific permission of the creator of the image, which I uploaded to Wikipedia for use in my own user page. I understand the geneal policy against non-free images in non article space, but I think that since it is both specifically depicting to the user on whose page it appears and used with permission, I think it would qualify under fair use. -- Infrogmation 01:41, 30 January 2006 (UTC)
- Well there are a couple of ways to cut that one from my perspective... For example, were this a commercial portrait photograph where the photographer retains copyright and charges for duplicates, I'd say no.. since your use is exactly the sort that photographers everywhere in the US are able to extract income from. :) Since you have permission, though, that is immaterial. What I think matters in this case are two points: We do not accept simple permission on Wikipedia and we do not permit fair use images on userpages. The existence of this image on Wikipedia decreases the percentage of content which is Free. I agree that the use causes us no direct harm, but it causes indirect harm in the increased complexity of managing the already overwhelmingly complex image licensing situation... and I'm not sure that the continued use of this image would justify the extra burden. ... Is this image really important to you Infrogmation? --Gmaxwell 02:06, 30 January 2006 (UTC)
- Important enough for me to ask for this review. Anyway, as I understand it now it's not that the accuracy of my assertion that using the image on my page is acceptable under US copyright law that's being challenged, but rather that the image is a causualty of a general program to simplify Wikipedia's free content. That seems simpler and clearer than the explanations above. Labeling it an "orphan" and a supposed challenge of fair use were both inaccurate. It is fair use, but is to be deleted from Wikipedia anyway. Ah well. Thanks for your feedback. -- Infrogmation 15:06, 30 January 2006 (UTC)
