William Deresiewicz (born 1964), formerly an associate professor of English at Yale University [1] until 2008, is a widely published literary critic. His criticism directed at a popular audience appears in The Nation [2], The American Scholar [3][4], the London Review of Books [5], and The New York Times [6][7]. More often than not controversial, his negative reviews of Terry Eagleton [8], Zadie Smith [9] and Richard Powers [10] drew heated reactions [11] within the literary community. In 2008 he was nominated for a National Magazine Award for reviews and criticism.

His academic work Jane Austen and the Romantic Poets was published by Columbia University Press in 2004.
