Tappi-Kaitei Station (竜飛海底駅, Tappi-Keitei-eki) is a railway station in the Seikan Tunnel on the JR Hokkaido’s Kaikyo Line, under the Tsugaru Strait. It is in the town of Sotogahama, Aomori Prefecture, Japan. It is 32.5 kilometers from the Naka-Oguni Signal.
History
Tappi-Keitei Station was opened on March 13, 1988. The station is very infrequently serviced (usually only one or two trains per day stop there), but is connected by an underground cable car to the surface. The station houses a museum detailing the construction and operation of the tunnel. Yoshioka-Kaitei Station, Japan's deepest underground station, is located on the Hokkaidō side of the tunnel. With the completion of the Hokkaido Shinkansen, the station and its museum will be closed.
