Overview

The Sony Handycam NEX-VG10 is an upcoming interchangeable lens video camera made and distributed by Sony. It will use Sony E mount camera lenses that were first used on the Sony NEX-3 and Sony NEX-5. It is capable of shooting in 1920x1080 full HD using a large dslr like sensor. The video is captured in the AVCHD format and there will also be support for 11x zoom. When capturing still photos the NEX-VG10 is capable of 14 megapixel stills [1]. Sony has announced that the camera kit will come with a 18-200mm lens [2] that will also be compatible with the NEX Mirrorless interchangeable lens camera systems. The 16mm ultra wide and 18-55mm lens e-mount lenses will also work with full auto-focus support [3]. The built on mic is made of four directional mics that record in two way stereo with the ability to capture both front and back sounds[4]. The mic handle also has support for a hot shoe to connect a supported flash gun and a cold shoe to add on extra accessories. There will also be a 3.5 mm mic jack to add a separate mic to for more accurate sound capture [5]. The NEX-VG10 is currently unreleased but has a tentative ship date for September 2010. It will be priced at $1999 US dollars and come in a kit with a 18-200 mm lens, a large lens hood and a free download of Vega Movie Studio [6].

Compatible Lenses

The VG-10 will out of the box be able to support two additional lenses other then the kit lens. A 16mm ultra wide angleand the all purpose 18-55mm lens that comes with most NEX mirrorless cameras will be fully supported. In addition a fish eye add-on lense will be able to work with the 16 mm pancake. All future Sony E mount series of lenses will be fully supported with auto-focus.
