Welles Remy Crowther (born on the 17th of May, 1977) died on the 11th of September, 2001 in the 9/11 terrorist attacks on New York City
Early life
Welles Crowther, the eldest of three children, was born on Tuesday, May 17, 1977 at Lying-In Hospital of the City of New York. He attended Nyack Highschool where he was an honor roll student before attending Boston College to read a B.A. in Economics.
He carried a red bandanna on his person at all times which his father had given to him. He played a number of sports including ice hockey and Soccer. Crowther was also a boy scout and a volunteer fire-fighter.
September 11th, 2001
Crowther worked for Sandler O'Neill and Partners on the 104th floor of the South Tower (WTC 2). After the plane hit, witnesses report that Crowther appeared, with a red bandanna covering his mouth and nose to protect him from the debris. It is claimed that he re-entered the building at least 3 times and is directly responsible for saving at least 18 peoples lives.[1] including Judy Wein and Ling Young, who keeps a picture of him in her house.
Crowther and the members of FDNY with whom he was recovered, had been on their way back up the South Tower with a Hurst “jaws of life” tool to free victims who were trapped under debris, presumably in the Sky Lobby.
