Harold Meltzer
Harold Meltzer (born 1966 Brooklyn) is an American composer. [1]
Life
He grew up in Long Island. After graduating from Amherst College, summa cum laude, he studied law at Columbia University and worked for the firm of Patterson Belknap in New York City. He later earned degrees in music at King's College, Cambridge and the Yale School of Music.
In 2009 his chamber sextet Brion was a Finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in Music.[2] His past commissions include piano concertos for the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Boston Modern Orchestra Project. He currently teaches composition at Vassar College,[3] and has been the composer in residence for the Colonial Symphony Orchestra. [4] In 1996 he co-founded the new music ensemble Sequitur and remains its co-Artistic Director.
Meltzer is married to the former Hilary Michele Brest, with whom he has two children, Julia and Elijah; they live in Manhattan. [5]
