Adam Urias De Pencier
The Most Rev. Adam Urias de Pencier ,[1]OBE,[2] DD was the third Bishop of New Westminster and second Metropolitan of British Columbia.[3] He was born in 1866, the great-great grandson of Charles I, Duke of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel through his great-grandfather Christian Theodore von Pincier.[4] The von Pincier family, which received its peerage from King Carl XII in 1698 in Stockholm, came to Canada in the late 18th century.
de Pencier was educated at Trinity College Toronto and ordained in 1890.[5] He then held incumbencies at St Matthew’s, Brandon and St Paul’s, Vancouver. He was appointed Bishop of New Westminster in 1910[6] and Metropolitan of British Columbia in 1925, retiring fom both posts in 1940. He died on 31 May 1949.[7]
