Filipino Plaza, is a landscaped park located in Vanness Avenue, west of Nanaimo Street in the city of Vancouver. The open park, sometimes referred to as a linear park, located underneath the skytrain Expo Line, was one of the dozens of open parks built in 1986 as part of TransLink Parkway Program showcasing different cultural parks on the 26-kilometer path that parallels the Skytrain. Many ethnic communities created legacies on the linear park under the Skytrain in 1986. One park is the German-Canadian Heritage Plaza in 29th street just across the Skytrain's 29th Street Station.[2]
A very distinctive logo mounted on an arch, very visible when standing in front of the park is the Template:Sarimanok which is a Filipino mythical bird that symbolizes golden harvest and good fortunes in the Philippines. [3]
The park is still in same location and very intact since 1986.
In June of 2010, a group of young Filipino Canadians community leaders and volunteers led by community activist Jay Razon together with Jojo Quimpo hosted a series of meetings at the park and proposed new improvements [4]. A new committee "Filipino Plaza Committee of 2010 is being formed by Razon to handle proposed improvements. [5]
