The New Glossary of Tango Dance is a dictionary of tango dance authored by the argentine dancer, Maestro and writer Gustavo Benzecry Sabá and published in the year of Argentina’s bicentenial annivesary.
Just like it’s first edition – published in 2004- this book’s cover is illustrated by the artist Ernesto Bertani and keeps the forewords and epilogue of the famous dancers Juan Carlos Copes, Carlos Gavito and Miguel Angel Zotto, all of them world-wide reknowned dancers from Buenos Aires.
The “New Glossary of Tango Dance – Key Tango Argentino words” is a unique book in its kind that has been released to satisfy the requests from readers all around the World, since its first Edition was sold out for a long time.
With a renewed layout, the new edition encounters 387 words, alphabetically ordered, and defined with such precision that it has become a reference for teachers and students of this dance, due to its idiomatical and cultural richness.
It also includes an essay about the different tango dance that are recognized in Argenitna, defining –without predjudice- Canyengue, Salón (original and current), Fantasía, Nuevo, Liso, For Export and Milonguero.
The book also shows color pictures of the dancers Annatina Luck and Daniel Aranda portraiting the posture of six different styles as well as different tango movements, such as “barrida”, “quebrada”, “salto” and “volcada” among others.
Finally, this Glossary of Tango Dance defines several popular sayings and expressions to enrich even more the “tanguero” language and vocabulary of the city.
The english version, translated by the writer Laura Nicastro and supervised by the Maestra and dancer María Olivera, features an English-Spanish list of words with their respective index to guide the reader more efficiently to the understanding of each voice.
