BHP Billiton Ravensthorpe Nickel Project is

BHP Billiton ended the project in January 2009 which resulted in the loss of 2,000 jobs, some business closures and loss in population to the town of Ravensthorpe[1]. The Canadian miner First Quantum Minerals announced they would purchase the operations from BHP Billiton for $US340 million. First Quantum Minerals anticipated production of 39,000 tones per year in the first five years, with the creation of 600 jobs.
