Jack Boothman (footballer)

John Broadhurst "Jack" Boothman (16 July 1906 – 1989) was born in Richmond. Having received many offers from other clubs, Boothman played for the Hawthorn Football Club in 1927, two years after they were registered as a V.F.L. team. He was the 62nd player to represent the Club and, therefore, wore the #62 guernsey. He was absent from the 1927 Hawthorn F.C. team photo due to a knee injury he sustained during that season. Boothman's photo was requested by the Hawthorn F.C. in 2009 and it will be displayed in a gallery of the Club's past players at their Museum at Waverley Park within the next 12 months. As he was born and bred in Richmond, he left Hawthorn at the end of 1927 as they refused to transfer him to the Richmond Football Club. Having left the V.F.L., he returned to the V.F.A. to play out his career as a wing for Camberwell. His playing career with Camberwell lasted 8 years and resulted in best and fairest awards.
