Jim Campbell (b. 1956, Chicago, IL) is a contemporary San Francisco based artist who primarily works with LED light installations. Cambpell began his artistic career in film making but soon switched to the LED pieces he is known for in the 1980's.[1] His current work combines film, sound, and LED light installations.[2]. He has emerged as a leading figure in new media arts.
Education
Campbell received a BS from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in electrical engineering and mathematics in 1978.[3]

Campbell's work is part of numerous public collections such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; The Museum of Modern Art, New York; The Smithsonian Museum of American Art, Washington, DC; The Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.
