The Lionel Wendt Art Centre is contributed the memory of Lionel Wendt’s dedication and precious services to arts. After Wendt's brother Harry Wendt's death, it was created as a Lionel Wendt Memorial Trust. Before Harry Wendt's death The Lionel Wendt Art Centre was established as a trust and nominated as an organization by an act of Parliament. In the 1940s 'Alborado', the house Wendt built by designs of Geoffrey Beling and it mean is "Dawn" [1]

Theater

The Lionel Wendt Theatre opened on 12th of December in 1953 with the production of Maxim Gorky's "The Lower Depths" It was produced by Prof. E. F. C. Ludowyk and Neumann Jubal. Iranganie Serasinghe performed role of Nastriya, in this production[2] Professor Ediriweera Sarachchandra's "Maname" was presented at the Lionel Wendt Theatre in 1956, and Chitrasena's "Karadiya" performance was here in 1961. [3]In Lionel Wendt theater is available facilities which over 625 people's seats .

The 43 Group’s second and third exhibitions were at Wendt’s house and the it was transformed as Lionel Wendt Gallery. Those early paintings sold for as Rs. 50 and Rs. 75, on those times.[4]In 1959 Memorial Art Gallery was opened and bring out three volumes of Lionel Wendt's photographs. The Lionel Wendt Art Centre consists of two gallery spaces for exhibitions and a fully equipped theatre hall. The Lionel Wendt Art Centre has been the main venue for art exhibitions , theatre and other performing art events for a long time and The galleries are available for rent .The ground floor exhibition hall is given for exhibitions of craft, handloom, and furniture .There are two Galleries Lionel Wendt Gallery and Harold Pieris Gallery exist .A large gallery called Lionel Wendt Gallery could be exhibit Art, Photography, Painting, Sculpture .An air conditioned exhibition Gallery dedicated to the memory of Harold Peiris.[5]
