Essar Hypermart is steel retail chain headquartered at Mumbai, India. It is the largest steel retail chain in the world. It has a steel retailing network of over 600 outlets across the world in key steel-consuming sectors. The first Essar Hypermart opened in Gandhidham, Gujarat in 2006. Since then, its network has grown steadily to include smaller franchisees and the 100th Essar Hypermart opened in Ranchi in 2010. Essar Hypermart is a part of the multinational conglomerate, the Essar Group. It caters directly to SMEs (Small and Medium Enterprises) and other end-users offering steel-buyers comprehensive solutions – from a single to a few tonnes customised in sizes and widths as per their requirements – at competitive prices.

History

Essar Hypermart was an initiative of Essar Steel, a 14 MTPA steel producer and one of India’s largest; to bring steel directly to SMEs and end-users. With its origins in India, Essar Steel sought to eliminate the role of intermediaries in the steel-buying process. Other problems that plagued steel-buyers were consistent quality, finding the right products, transparency in pricing and delivery on time. Essar Hypermart was thus founded in 2006 with the first Essar Hypermart opening in Gandhidham. Essar Hypermarts currently sell steel to all consumers ranging from small manufacturers, local fabricators and general engineering firms across all geographies.
