Koestraat is the only green campus location of Roosevelt Academy, a small liberal arts and science college in Middelburg, the Netherlands. It houses approximately 240 students from all over the world.

History

Koestraat started out as an office building, but changed into a student residence in 2007[1]. The rooms in Koestraat are either single, or double rooms. All rooms have the base colours of blue, red or yellow, and a SmartCube is randomly placed as a bathroom and kitchen. There was supposed to be a bed on top of the Cube, but the Housing Affairs Council (HAC) of 2003 voted against the proposal from Woongoed because the rooms would have been smaller. In 2010 solar panels were installed on the roof, creating the first green campus location of Zeeland.

Emergis

The Koestraat ground floor is inhabited by Emergis residences. Emergis is an institution for Dutch people with a history of mental illness who need support and structure provided by personnel who are present 24/7.

Door policies

First floor Koestraat residents are known for their closed door policy, and being very influenced by the ground floor residents in their behavior. Second floor residents are known for an open door policy, and being way higher than the third floor residents.

Studies done on Koestraat Residents

A statistics ACC110 study has proven beyond all reasonable doubt that the average EQ, of Koestraat residents is significantly higher than those of other campus locations. The test results of Roggeveenhof, Driewegenhof and Bagijnhof were all lower than those of Koestraat. It has been concluded that this is due to the fact that they all have a name ending with 'hof'. Koestraat has the least sleeping hours compared to the other campus locations [2] The reason for this lack of sleep is the breeding of party animals on the second floor, and the great impulses and vibes this sends out to the other floors. At least 3 times a semester, beer is provided by 2nd floor students, and freely distributed in the common room to all students attending. These unique moments are called K2 parties. People from all across the world gather at these parties.

Happiness

Because of Koestraat's second floor "open door policy" a majority of the inhabitants have increased their social skills. The K2 parties were the main cause of happiness. However "hangovers" play a big role in making common rooms on Wednesday mornings quiet places. A statistics ACC110 study is being done to find out how the Koestraat residents are able to not learn, yet get impressive grades. [3]

Barbara Streisand

The Koestraat building is home to Barbara Streisand, who is mostly known for roaming the 2nd floor.

2nd Floor Mascot

At the beginning of November 2010 Koestraat 2nd floor was introduced to their first floor mascot named Billy Bob, also referred to as Bob Billy. The floor mascot is a female plastic doll filled with air. The doll is attached with black duck-tape to the roof. This mascot serves the purpose of watching over the common room and any types of crime, including extensive alcohol consumption.
