Rónán

Rónán is an Irish name meaning "little seal" (Rón meaning "seal", and -án being a diminutive suffix). It may refer to:

• Rónán mac Colmáin (fl. 7th century), king of Leinster. Called Rónán mac Aédo in the tale Fingal Rónaín.
• Rónán, Irish churchman from Gaul, a proponent of the Roman dating of Easter and rival of Fínan, bishop of Lindisfarne, at the Synod of Whitby (664)

Saint Rónán

• St Ronan of Locronan (fl. c. 6th century), early Irish saint and hermit at Locronan and Quimper, Brittany. Feast day: 1 June.
• St Rónán mac Beraig (d. c. 665), founder of Druim Inesclainn (Drumshallon, Ireland). See Féchín of Fore.
• St Rónán Finn son of Sárán (fl. 7th century), patron saint of Lann Rónáin in the parish of Magheralin (Co. Down), brother to St Cairnech and the saint responsible for bringing a curse upon Suibne. He was later also conflated with Rónán mac Beraig.
• St Rónán (died 737), abbot of Kingarth (Bute, Scotland), possibly the patron saint of Kilmaronock (Dunbartonshire) and Innerleithen.
