Louis Leonard (born July 16, 1984 in Clovis, California) is an American football defensive tackle who is currently a New England Patriot. He was signed by the San Diego Chargers as an undrafted free agent in 2007. He played college football at Fresno State.

Leonard has also played for the St. Louis Rams, Cleveland Browns and Carolina Panthers.

Early years

Leonard attended Verbum Dei High School where as a senior he made 106 tackles and seven sacks.

College career

Leonard played college football at Fresno State. He played 43 times for Fresno and posted 68 tackles and 6.5 sacks. He graduated with a degree in criminology.

Professional career

San Diego Chargers

Leonard was originally signed by the San Diego Chargers as an undrafted rookie free agent on May 4 2007 and was a member of their practice squad.

St. Louis Rams

He was then signed by the St. Louis Rams to their active roster on September 12 but was later waived.

Cleveland Browns

He was claimed by the Cleveland Browns via waivers on October 8. He played in four games during his rookie season.

Carolina Panthers

Leonard was traded to the Carolina Panthers in exchange for an undisclosed draft pick on September 1, 2009.

He was waived on September 28, 2010.

New England Patriots

Louis has been signed by the New England Patriots to their active roster on December 13, 2010.
