JD Smith is the pseudonym of a currently serving active duty officer in the United States Armed Forces. He is credited with founding OutServe, an underground network of LGBT actively-serving military personnel. Because of the law known as Don't Ask Don't Tell, his identity remains unknown until such time as Don't Ask Don't Tell is no longer in effect.

He has done telephone interviews on the Rachel Maddow Show and NPR's radio show "All Things Considered," and was present at the presidential signing of legislation repealing "Don't Ask Don't Tell."
