Dinocroc is a 2004 horror film, starring Charles Napier and Joanna Pacuła, produced by Roger Corman, and directed by Kevin O'Neill. A prehistoric dinosaur, known as the Suchomimus, is genetically engineered by the GERECO Coporation, headed by Paula Kennedy (Joanna Pacuła). After being spliced with a modern day crocodile, the creature escapes the lab and begins eating the lake-side residents of a nearby town.

Plot

After an African dinosaur relative of the crocodile is found which could grow up to fifty feet long, Dr. Campbell uses its DNA to create hybrids of it with a modern day crocodile at Paula Kennedy's Genetic Research Co. (Gereco) lab. However one must be put down after killing his assistant, another kills the other prototype and escapes and the information is kept from sheriff Harper. His daughter, county dog catcher Diane Harper, helps her ex (welding artist Tom Banning) with his kid brother Michael's beloved dog. They bump into Campbell and discover the Dinocroc is growing, having escaped down a tunnel. In the commotion, when Michael tries to look for his three-legged dog Lucky, he finds the poor creature in Dinocroc's mouth. Seeing the boy as an easy meal, Dinocroc chases Michael through the forest, eating the boy and leaving only his head in an abandoned bathroom. Although Dr. Campbell hires Australian crocodile expert and intrepid hunter, Richard 'Dick' Sydney, the beast proves to have bulletproof skin, so the body count rises alarmingly. So, they use some dogs for bait, where they trap Dinocroc at a tunnel and gas the dinosaur/crocodile with poisonous gas. After that, the beast was thought to be dead until it wakes up and eats the TV reporter inside the tunnel making a false story about the events and chases Diane and Tom to the other side of the road where it gets rammed by a passing train followed by them stabbing it in the eye with a piece of the railroad tracks. At the very end of the film, as Diane and Tom drive away, now a couple again, Dinocroc is seen crawling weakly through the road still alive.

Awards

It received a Golden Galaxy Award from the American Science Fiction Society.

Sequels

In 2007, Corman produced a second crocodile film, Supergator, that was originally intended to be a sequel to Dinocroc.[1] In 2010, Roger and Julie Corman produced a third film, Dinocroc vs. Supergator, that featured the two creatures from Corman's films dueling one another. In the film, the Dinocroc and the Supergator escape from captivity ( Dinocroc was possibly recaptured while they created a new clone of Supergator since Supergator died in the previous film). It first aired on Syfy on June 26, 2010, it was directed by Roger Corman and starred David Carradine and John Callahan.[2]
